Stylist Andrew Mukamal has recreated many archived looks, from 90s Claudia Schiffer to real-life head-to-toe barbie influenced outfits. Looking at our standout favourites here are Margot Robbie’s Barbie looks you need to see…
#1 'DAY TO NIGHT' 1985
For the Barbie premiere in Seoul, Robbie turned to Versace to recreate these head-to-toe Barbie looks. Based on outfits worn by the original Barbie doll, there was the pink and white skirt suit with a matching boater hat and a glittery pink phone. Also, the shimmering bodice and tulle skirt with Barbie-inspired perfect hair.
#2 'SOLO IN THE SPOTLIGHT' 1960
In her most recent and possibly most glamorous look to date, Robbie wore a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture dress. Inspired by the doll's 'Solo In The Spotlight' look with the dramatic tulle and sequin off-the-shoulder dress with a red rose, matching opera gloves and handkerchief.
Creating the perfect doll-like silhouette, she finished her red-carpet look with a Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker necklace, a bold red lip and a sophisticated updo.
#3 'TOTALLY HAIR' 1992
For a photocall at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mexico City, Robbie wore a vintage mini dress that resembled the iconic Totally Hair Barbie from 1992. The Emilio Pucci dress in a pink, purple, green, and white pattern was paired with ink Manolo Blahnik heels, a Chanel bag and Taffin jewellery.
Inspired by the doll which was known for her impressive wavy hair, Robbie completed the look with long crimped hair.
#4 'ORIGINAL BARBIE' 1959
This look was inspired by the black and white swimsuit worn by the original doll in 1959. Breaking the internet Robbie rocked the 2023 updated version by Hervé Léger for her photocall in Syndey.
The dress was styled with Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses, Spinelli Kilcollin jewellery and open-toe black Manolo Blahnik heels.
#5 VERSACE 1994
It’s official, Margot Robbie’s Chanel shackles are off as she rocks another Versace number. Originally worn by Claudia Shiffer to an after-party at the Ritz in London this dress is from the Autumn/Winter collection 1994.
With the ultimate nineties nostalgia, Robbie wore the dress to Vogue Australia’s Barbie Celebration Party at Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. The metallic rose pink mini dress features an all-over glitter finish, a boned corseted bodice, opulent chainmail and a pleated party-ready mini skirt.
#6 VERSACE 1994
Another Gianni Versace look, taken from the Italian fashion house's autumn/winter 1994 collection. This campaign featured legendary supermodels such as Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington.
This look perfectly captures Barbie's aesthetic with a metallic pink pleated skirt and high-neck knit, purple socks and white heels.
#7 CHANEL 1996
We had to include one Chanel look, inspired by stylist Andrew Mukamal's current muse Claudia Shiffer! Wearing the spring/summer 1996 collection as her airport look when she landed at Sydney airport.
Truly a Barbie girl living in a Barbie world, she wore it with classic heeled pumps and stone-coloured trousers. Not to mention, finished off with a vintage-inspired pink suitcase.
#8 'ENCHANTED EVENING' 1960
Saving the best to last, Margot Robbie's questionably most glamorous and doll-like look captured all of our hearts. Touching down in London wearing custom-made Vivienne Westwood couture, the look was inspired by the “Enchanted Evening” doll which was first produced by the toy giant in the 1960s.
Robbie’s look was an almost near replica—the satin gown featured a draped corseted bodice that fell into a form-fitting skirt and blush pink train. It had an embroidered tulle stole at the top half of the dress and a rose brooch at the waist. Like her doll inspiration, the Australian accessorized the look with ivory opera gloves, clear heels, and a chunky pearl choker.
