Often overlooked due to the extreme and flamboyant outfits parading on the runway, accessories tend to have various updates each season. With a watchful eye, MyBag has homed in on the top 5 bag trends for SS19 that you need to get clued up with now - that’s if you want to get ahead of the trend of course...
Extra Elegant Belt Bags
Belt bags have continued to grow in style over the past season. Noted before as a camera bag and commonly promoted as a sports-driven accessory, the belt bag has taken an elegant turn. Now dressed with skirts, dresses and evening formal attire, the belt bag no longer remains in street style.
The XXL Bag
Over previous seasons, we have noticed the bags getting smaller. Miniature accessories were a thing - and we loved that. We saw pouches only big enough for your lipstick, and bags with handles only suitable for a three-finger grip. But SS19 accommodates for the woman wanting to take everything with her - and we mean, everything. The XXL bags showcased on the catwalk were borderline weekend bags. Either slung over the shoulder or gripped under the arm, the larger bags were a prevalent feature amongst designers.
Luxury Rafia, Macrame Bags
As we long for the summer season and our chance to whip out our flip-flops, nothing gives off a beach vibe more than a macrame bag. Either looking like netting fished out from the sea, or weaved on a tropical island, macrame bags were a popular accessory on the catwalk.
The Shaped Bags
Ball shapes, box shapes and more. SS19 sees the return of unconventional handbags. Miniature trunks, bauble bags and structured styles were noticed on the runways once again.
More Bags The Better
Are two bags better than one? Stylishly hung over two shoulders or clutched in the palm of one hand, models travelled the catwalk with more than one bag. Identical or a mixture of purses and belt bags, the runway for SS19 brought with it extra storage and extra accessory opportunities.
Back To The Archive
SS19 is to see a huge resurgence in retro ‘IT’ bags, as they were once called. Not only has this been a key inspiration for designers, but street style influencers have also looked back into their wardrobes ahead of next season…
